You Can’t Grind an Axe on Butter is a memoir about cancer, relapse, a stem cell transplant, radiation, motherhood, faith, fear, family, and the people who carried me when I could not carry myself.

Diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin lymphoma just six weeks after the birth of my daughter, I entered a fight I never planned for. What followed was chemotherapy, relapse, a pioneering stem cell transplant, radiation, and decades of learning that survival does not end when treatment does.

Woven throughout the story are the colorful sayings, or “isms,” I grew up hearing from my parents. I did not understand how much wisdom they carried until life gave me a reason to need them.

This is not simply a cancer story. It is a story about endurance, family, faith, humor, and what it means to keep living when life takes you somewhere you never planned to go.
